I have a ASUS 4670 card which does 5.1 LPCM to Onkyo AV Receiver
I am using Catalyst version 11.5a...with Windows 7 SP1
(I prefer to output everything as LPCM rather than bitstream DTS or AC3
My card cant bitstream Dolby True HD or DTS HD MA audio anyway)
I use MPHC version .2748
along with FFDshow for audio and video(mainly Divx/Xvid)
So I have been using Haali splitter for playing all HD MKVs(720ps and 1080ps)
(Unticked Matroska...MPHC under View>Options>Internal Filters>Source)
but now it seems that the internal splitter (I assume this is Gabest)
is fine for these.
So is Haali splitter needed for anything?
ie TV stuff..or HD TV stuff?
or if you have more than one audio/video stream?
Or can MPHC's Gabest handle all these??
I also have Aero disable..when playing movies with MPHC
Is that necessary???

No reason to use Haali. On my HTPCs I just use MPC HC with its internal splitter (Gabest). Haali has caused nothing but headaches. However, keep in mind that depending on how you use your PC you may need Haali for other applications (several ripping/encoding applications require). Worse case you can install Haali and if you find it causes an issue with MPC HC just block in it in the external filters section.

When you use MPC Home Cinema can you still use the 7MC frontend? Meaning do I play my ripped movies through the 7MC interface and the player loaded is lust MPC rather than WMP?

I use WMC + Media Browser. Media Browser is set to launch MPC HC for my mkvs, TMT for my BluRay folder rips, and just use the internal WMC player for all other formats. This allows me a nice and clean install, no codec packs or additional filters/decoders (with the exception of FFDShow which I use to bitstream HD Audio)

Okay. I use 7MC and MyMovies4. I don't want to switch to Media Browser if that means I have to give up MyMovies.

Thanks dbone1026 for your prompt reply!
So I can leave Haali on..and as you say disable it in MPHC if necessary.
What about the setting of ...disable desktop composition(Aero)... in MPHC
under View>Render Setting >Presentation
I have it activated..is this necessary?
Also I have just installed Reclock..and set it as the default audio renderer ..under playback> output ...in MPHC
Do you use this for your setup?
Or dont you change the screen resolution to 1080p 24hz..but just leave the screen at default 60Hz???

Honestly I have never messed with the Render Setting, I just keep it at the default.
Also, I don't use Reclock. Right now I just keep my screen at the default 60Hz
I am sure someone else will chime in who uses Reclock

The main reason I am trying Reclock..is when you view
Display Stats...under View> Render Settings...in MPHC
instead of getting two parallel straight lines...like you're supposed to see
I get two parallel zigzagging lines!!
Do you have any issues there on your system?
or any suggestions why I get this on mine?

So you are supposed to uncheck matroska under filters?
Wish some one would make a guide on all the settings to use/disable.

Cherokee Man....Only if you want to use Haali splitter for MKVs
you goto MPHC under View>Options>Internal Filters>Source
and untick matroska.
If you want to use the internal Gabest splitter in MPHC for matroska
then leave... matroska... ticked
At least thats what I understood dbone1026 to be saying..

Correct. If you don't have Haali installed and are fine with using the internal MPC Splitter then you don't need to do anything. If you have Haali installed and want to use it with MPC HC untick matroska in Internal Filters and in External FIlters you can add Haali and set it to prefer

thanks for that screen dbone1026!
I can do screen or individual window capture...
but how do you incorporate into post..??
I have never been able figure that one
is there a tutorial somewhere that shows how?
Yep yours looks similar to mine...except my zigzags are slightly
larger and more regular.
I always assumed it had somethinhg to do with displaying
23.976 or 24 hz material on a 60hz screen??
I also noticed you have NV12 output...
mine shows RGB32...
In catalyst contol panel under the pixel format
mine is set to RGB4:4:4...(Full RGB)
maybe that affects this??
or is that set in MPHC??

I use imageshack.us for images. Simply upload an image which will then give you a url. In your post hit that little picture icon that shows up (to the left of the quotes icon), paste the url in, and hit ok. That easy!

For the screenshot I gave you, it is just from my desktop PC which is plugged in to a monitor. I don't really use it for actually video playback so in this instance I haven't messed around with any of the settings. All settings you see are just the default ones.
